Unlike 'non-woven' textiles where the fibres are amalgamated by different processes, the fabric is made by weaving. This means that threads are interlaced to make a type of net with largely fine stitches.

It is possible to use all types of fibres (cotton, polyester or a mix) to produce these threads. Historically, weaving is of a quality proof, but it is only recently that the micro fibre technologies have enabled the production of very fine weaving and extremely tight technical fabrics.
